Well, unless somebody has better ideas, we've figured on partnering with the schools (LAUSD and the LACC system), partnering with the neighborhood councils, partnering with local HOAs, and business partners that seek to market to young people (although that comes with a great deal of controversy).
How about also with museums like LACMA, MOCA and the Hammer? Also partnering with local newspapers and/or the LA Times was mentioned I think at the meeting.
Yes, thank you. Definitely the papers. But also the public TV (I think we have two here in LA), KCET, and KOCE (?)
Publishers maybe? I know libraries have a strange symbiotic relationship with publishers.
Children's Literature has a relationship with Transit People: http://www.transitpeople.org/
I could talk to the organizers to see if they'd like to add a Scavenger Hunt option as one of their field trips. Of course, we'd have to develop the scavenger hunt first.
It would be great to also have closer relationships with the national library associations such as the California Library Association, the American Library Association, the Association for Library Services to Children and the Young Adult Library Services Association. They often have large, national campaigns related to our goals and also have national media outlets that they work with.
This may also be controversial but it seems that Hollywood is fighting for children & teen dollars by capitalizing on the popularity of kids' & teen books. They should be happy to help us promote LAPL with schwag at least (like for the library leaders program) because they would be promoting their films at the same time!
Every year, if I attend the ALA Annual Conference, Book Expo, or the San Diego Comic Convention, I ask as many publishers/gaming companies, etc. as possible if they are willing to give me incentives for the teen summer reading program, and most are happy to oblige.
Hopefully, those vendors with a more academic bent would be even happier to partner with us!
